For the second consecutive year, the Olpe Eagles returned from Dodge City as champions.
The Eagles defeated South Gray in the 1A Division 1 state championship game 66-42 Saturday. Saturday’s win is the second back-to-back title the Eagles have won this school year after repeating as state champions in football defeating Inman in Hays back in November.
Head Coach Chris Schmidt says his players are champions both on and off the court.
Olpe Principal Shane Clark says the school’s success is a testament to the Olpe community as a whole.
Olpe is just the second school in history to win back-to-back state titles in football and basketball following Hanover who won consecutive titles in both 8-man Division II football and 1A basketball during the 2008-2009 and 2009-2010 school years.
