Remodeling continues for a new preschool for USD 251 North Lyon County, and now most of the expected costs will be offset by grant money.
Superintendent Bob Blair says the district recently received word of a $278,000 grant from the Jones Trust and a separate ESSER 2 grant for $125,000. This means the district only has to cover about 20 percent of the estimated $505,000 total through its capital outlay budget. Blair says the district moved forward on the project last fall as a “leap of faith,” hoping to secure some grant money for the project. He also tells KVOE News there has been a lot of progress the past few months.
The district’s new Early Learning Center at 558 Broadway comes online this fall, and Blair has said having a preschool is a critical component of building kindergarten readiness — a main focal point at the state level for years. Judging by the interest, it’s already popular with families both in and out of the district.
Off that topic, the district’s Board of Education has a special work meeting from 5:30-8 pm Monday to discuss the five-year strategic plan, including long-range capital outlay items and projects. The meeting will be at the district board office in Americus and will not be online.
