Emporia States softball team split a doubleheader with Newman Sunday.
Emporia State won the first game 8-7. They scored 7 of those runs in the 3rd inning. Harley Sturm hit a solo home run. Alexis Dial drove in 2 runs with a double.
Only 3 of their runs were earned.
Newman won the 2nd game 10-9. They scored 6 runs in the 1st inning and added 2 runs in both the 4th and 5th innings. The Lady Hornets tried to rally, scoring 4 runs in the 2nd, two on a double by Brittanie Shepherd. They added 5 runs in the 6th, Bailey Flewelling drove in 2 runs with a single, and Emma Furnish hit a 3 run home run.
The Emporia State softball team plays at William Jewel on Wednesday.
