The main weather focus heading into Sunday was critical fire danger, but only minimal fire activity developed.
Chase County Fire Chief Steve Fillmore says there were “minor issues” with open campfires at Chase County Lake, while the Coffey County Sheriff’s Office reported a small grass fire near 11th and Reaper about five miles east of Burlington.
Most area counties, including Lyon County, were in red flag warnings for the bulk of the day. Conditions will be cooler with highs in the upper 50s, but outdoor burning is still discouraged with southerly winds as high as 30 mph. Chase County is now in a burn ban through Monday. It will be re-evaluated Tuesday.
