Tuesday night could be lengthy for the Emporia-Lyon County Metropolitan Area Planning Commission.
Board members will consider two separate applications involving the future of Plumb Place at 224 East Sixth, including a rezoning request from R-3 High-Density Residential to C-3 General Commercial and a Conditional Use Permit for indoor storage. This reflects Eli Fowler’s plan to have as many as six apartments and temperature-controlled indoor storage. Plumb Place was the city’s longtime home for women in crisis situations, but the original agency closed at the end of 2020 due to ongoing financial issues and a revived agency is looking at other locations to revive that mission.
In other business, the board will consider:
*A rezoning request for property along Michelle Street from R-1 Low-Density Residential and C-3 General Commercial to R-3 High-Density Residential
*A Conditional Use Permit application for a truck maintenance facility at 4215 West Highway 50 near Flying J
*An application to vacate a platted alley in Hammond Park
*Adoption of a resolution finding the Red Brick Emporia redevelopment plan is in accordance with the city’s comprehensive plan. This involves a proposed travel plaza near the roundabout connecting West Highway 50 to the Kansas Turnpike and Interstate 35.
The meeting is at 6 pm Tuesday at the Municipal Court Room.
