For several months American Red Cross Spokesperson Susan Faler has been on KVOE’s airwaves discussing the critical need for blood donations amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Monday, Faler joined KVOE’s Morning Show to share some more heartening news, the blood supply is no longer at a critical level.
Faler credited the hundreds of thousands of donations that have come in over the course of the past several months for pulling the blood supply out of a crisis. Faler especially credited local communities within the KVOE listening area for stepping up in a large way.
According to Faler, the Red Cross has roughly four days’ worth of blood on hand which is a good level, however, she tells KVOE News the ideal amount would be seven days. With that in mind, Faler noted that there are several local blood drives on the community calendar in the coming weeks where residents can do their part to increase the available supply.
Those dates include:
*March 22: Northern Heights High School
*March 23: Waverly High School
*March 25: Riverside Elementary School
*March 31: Eureka Community Blood Drive
*April 4-5: Emporia Community Blood Drive at Emporia Presbyterian Church West Campus
*April 11: Emporia State University Memorial Union Ballroom
