The search for a new Emporia City Commissioner officially begins Thursday.
Applications for the soon-to-be-vacant seat left by longtime commissioner Rob Gilligan will be made available by mid-day Thursday according to City Manager Trey Cocking. This follows Gilligan’s official resignation during the commission’s regular action session Wednesday evening.
It was announced last week that Gilligan will be leaving for Cape Girardeau, Missouri, where he will serve as the Chamber of Commerce President and CEO beginning April 11. Following Wednesday’s meeting, Gilligan spoke with KVOE News and says he is grateful for the opportunity he has had for over the past decade to serve his hometown.
In addition to his role as an Emporia City Commissioner, Gilligan has also served as the Ignite Emporia Director for the past two years and has also held positions on the Regional Development Association of East Central Kansas Board of Directors and the Emporia Main Street board. Gilligan’s final commission meeting will be Apr. 6 at which time commissioners may approve a new member.
Applications will be accepted until Apr. 1. Residents interested in the City Commission position can call Cocking at 620-343-4250 or reach out to any of the city commissioners for information.
