6 am Wednesday: Red flag warnings coming for Chase, Greenwood counties from 12-7 pm Wednesday; light snow possible Thursday night
For the second time this week, critical fire danger is part of the weather picture for two area counties.
The National Weather Service has announced red flag warnings for Chase and Greenwood counties from 12-7 pm. The Weather Service expects southerly wind gusts as high as 40 mph along with temperatures in the 70s and humidity levels around 20 percent by afternoon.
This triggers automatic burn bans for both counties, but outdoor burns are strongly discouraged elsewhere across the KVOE listening area, including Lyon County.
Winter may make a return to the area Thursday night into Friday. Rain could start Thursday afternoon, but rain appears likely after sunset. The rain, including thundershowers, could well change over to snow — and back to rain — before ending by early Friday afternoon. Projected rain totals could be in the half-inch to 1-inch range. Projected snow amounts are under an inch.
Updates will be coming on KVOE, KVOE.com and KVOE social media.
