There wasn’t much in the way of changes to the most recent US Drought Monitor map.
A pocket of no drought status developed in western and southwestern Wabaunsee County since the March 10 report. However, the rest of the KVOE listening area, including Lyon County, remains abnormally dry.
Moderate drought, the next level on the Drought Monitor scale, has actually crept into western Morris and southeastern Greenwood counties.
By this time next week, there could be a dent in the current drought coverage. Moderate to occasionally heavy rainfall is possible across the area Thursday night through much of Friday, with additional rainfall in the forecast Monday and Tuesday.
The Drought Monitor’s weekly data cutoff for its Thursday maps is at 7 am Central time Tuesday.
