An injured bald eagle found in east Emporia this week is now on the mend under the eye of the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks.
Emporia Police Capt. Ray Mattas says officers were dispatched to an unlisted home in east Emporia around 6:30 pm Thursday and found the bird on the roof. The eagle tried unsuccessfully to fly off, making it to a nearby tree before falling to the ground. Officers connected with Wildlife and Parks Officer Tanner Houk, who took the bird into his possession.
Mattas says the extent of nature of injuries were initially unclear. Rehab and release plans have not been announced.
