Falling temperatures and snowflakes have made for a slick Friday morning across much of the KVOE listening area.
Morning temperatures slid to the mid-30s, causing a light rain to change to snow and setting the stage for several reported injury crashes on the Kansas Turnpike southwest of Emporia. Wrecks at mile markers 110, 111 and 117 — between 10 and 24 miles southwest of Emporia — were reported between 9 and 11 am. Further details about these incidents are all pending.
Highway conditions are seasonal, or isolated snow and ice coverage, to partly covered, according to Kandrive.org. KDOT crews are out. Emporia and Lyon County are monitoring the situation at this time.
Meanwhile, the snowfall looks to be transitioning back to rainfall. Liquid totals:
*KVOE studios: 0.40 inches
*Emporia Municipal Airport: 0.45 inches
*10th and Weaver: 0.45 inches
We’ll keep you updated on KVOE, KVOE.com and KVOE social media. If you have rain totals or snow photos from earlier, message the KVOE-Bluestem Farm and Ranch Text Line at 620-342-5863.
