Frigid temperatures and wintry precipitation led to a handful of vehicle accidents within the KVOE listening area Friday morning.
A wreck at mile marker 110 sent a Texas resident to Newman Regional Health just before 8:40 am. KHP reports that a Ford Expedition driven by 41-year-old Amy Lynn Liedke of Lubbock, TX, was northbound and hydroplaned.
The vehicle struck a barrier wall, entered the right ditch, crashed through a fence and traveled down an embankment where it came to a stop. KHP says Liedke suffered possible injuries and had complaints of pain but was not taken to the hospital.
A passenger, 49-year-old Roger Lynn Starnes of Lubbock, was taken to Newman with what are being called suspected minor injuries. Both individuals were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the accident.
A Derby man was also hospitalized following a separate crash at mile marker 103 northbound shortly before 10 am. KHP says 64-year-old Felipe Jimenez Lim of Derby was northbound when his Ford F-150 hydroplaned and left the roadway.
The pickup struck a drainage ditch and came to a stop. Lim was also taken to Newman with what KHP is calling suspected minor injuries. He was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident.
Crashes were also reported at mile markers 111 and 117 — southwest of Emporia — between 9 and 11 am. Details on those incidents are still pending.
