An Emporia State University professor is still recovering after surviving a plane crash last month.
The university’s Teachers College says Dr. Jay Smith, a lecturer in the School Leadership/Middle and Secondary Teacher Education program, suffered serious injuries when the plane he was flying went down in a wooded area in Lonoke County, Arkansas, just east of Little Rock on Feb. 14. He was taken to a Little Rock hospital afterward.
The Teachers College says Smith is recovering from several surgeries to repair broken bones in a leg and arm as well as his face, but his wife is helping him with typing assistance and Smith is still teaching his spring class — online Mentoring and Coaching — and he plans to teach several courses this upcoming summer for Emporia State.
