Sunday mornings in Emporia have become a place of extraordinary opportunity if you like to eat breakfast.
Three local establishments are currently offering outstanding culinary opportunities on Sunday mornings.
The Commercial Street Diner at 714 Commercial has offered “food so good you’ll think they stole your momma!” for years!
Radius Brewing Company at 610 Merchant added a “Brunch” to their weekly schedule a while back and it matches their already excellent reputation for great food.
The third option is Union Street Social at 225 East Sixth. As one of Emporia’s newest dining options, they are off to a good start. Their Brunch provides their competition with a run for their money.
Commercial Street Diner’s menu needs little explanation. They’ve been offering a great breakfast for years. My favorite is the traditional Ham and Eggs with my eggs over easy, hash browns crispy, and sourdough toast. That slice of ham is so big I always take half of it home for a sandwich later! Their pancakes and cinnamon rolls are not only huge but delicious too.
Radius’s wood-fired brick oven pizzas have been their staple since opening and their breakfast version measures up both as a main course or dessert. One of our favorites is their Pu-Tine which Google says is a Canadian dish of French fries topped with cheese curds and brown gravy. The Radius offering uses a sausage gravy and I’m not sure about the cheese, but I am sure it is awesome and one order feeds two easily.
There’s a lot more including Al a Carte which is priced ridiculously low. And, their bar is open too for those so inclined.
Union Street Social uses catchy titles for their food. I personally haven’t gotten by the first one listed “USS B&G” during my two visits there. Their buttermilk biscuits with your choice of sausage or mushroom gravy are a keeper.
You can have a Smoked Trout Chila-quilles a traditional Mexican dish, the Happy Camper, or Breakfast Sammy both with eggs among other standard offerings.
They too have A la carte and a large coffee menu that looks special although I’ve never tasted coffee.
Final thought! Don’t miss one of their skillet-baked pancakes!
Emporia has another winner! Breakfast or Brunch with three great options.
Commercial Street opens really early with Radius Brewing and Union Street Social at ten o’clock on Sunday mornings.
You won’t be sorry.
