Monday evening will be big for members of 4 Rivers Electric Cooperative.
The utility has its annual meeting, with a look back at a range of activities from last year and a look ahead to upcoming projects. One of the main focal points for this year, according to General Manager Dennis Svanes, is a reset on rates. Svanes says there are currently two rate structures in effect, so the goal is to create one set of rates for members.
Svanes says last year had several points of interest, including the impact of the brutal cold seen across the central third of the country in February and the successful start of “sun farms” near Americus and Fredonia. Svanes is also glad the impact of COVID-19 is currently much lower than it was at times last year.
The meeting is at Memorial Hall in Independence, with doors opening at 5 pm and the business meeting starting at 7 pm. Activities include reports, a meal, door prizes and a keynote address from Kansas Major General Lee Tafanelli.
All 4 Rivers offices will close at 2 pm Monday in advance of the meeting.
