A woman listed as being from Hutchinson and with connections to Lyon County is dead following a semi-passenger car collision near Strong City Saturday night.
Chase County authorities were called to a reported injury crash on US Highway 50 between Roads V and W, about three miles east of Strong City, just before 10 pm. Kansas Highway Patrol troopers arrived on scene just before 10:30 pm and took over the case.
According to KHP, a 2015 Nissan Altima driven by 32-year-old Briana Lane of Hutchinson was traveling westbound on US 50 and crossed into the eastbound lane for unknown reasons. The Altima struck a semi driven by 59-year-old Forest Dillard Jr. of Bakersfield, CA.
The Altima then came to a rest on the north shoulder while the semi entered the north ditch where it came to a rest. Lane suffered fatal injuries as a result of the collision.
Dillard suffered no apparent injuries and did not require medical treatment. US-50 between V and W was closed until just before 3:50 am according to the Chase County Sheriff’s Office.
Both individuals were wearing seatbelts at the time of the collision.
Numerous KVOE listeners have reached out over the weekend, saying Lane recently moved back to Emporia and also spent time in Hartford. Funeral arrangements are pending.
1:30 am Saturday: Semi-car crash outside Strong City under investigation
Chase County deputies and Kansas Highway Patrol troopers have been working a wreck involving reported injuries near Strong City.
Chase County authorities responded to a crash on US Highway 50 between V and W Roads, about three miles east of Strong City, before 10 pm Saturday. Highway Patrol troopers arrived at the crash site a bit before 10:30 pm, and Emporia Fire was asked to respond about 1 am Sunday.
Early indications are a semi and passenger car collided. There is currently no word on the number of patients or the severity of any injuries.
US-50 has been closed between V and W Roads since authorities arrived at the site.
