Emporia High biology teacher Erica Huggard is once again being recognized for her outstanding teaching practices.
In her 16 year career, Huggard has won numerous honors including being named a Kansas Master Teacher for the 2019-2020 academic year and a state finalist for the Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching in 2021. Huggard is now adding, being a finalist for the Region 1 secondary-level finalist for Kansas Teacher of the Year, to her long list of accomplishments.
Huggard describes the overwhelming feeling she experienced after the announcement.
The application process is robust and requires a lot of attention. Huggard explains the application didn’t only require information from her, but others as well.
Huggard attained her bachelor’s degree in education in 2006 and began her teaching career the next year. In 2009 Huggard acquired her master’s degree in curriculum and instruction with an emphasis in English as a second language from Kansas State.
The 2023 Kansas Teach of the Year will be announced Sept. 24th in Wichita.
