Emporia fire battled an evening grass fire north of Emporia Saturday night.
Emporia fire was called to the intersection of Roads H5 and 230, roughly 9 miles north of Emporia, just before 7:30 pm. According to Fire Battalion Chief Ryan Conley, the fire began as a controlled burn that became out of control due to shifting winds.
The fire spread to a neighboring field and scorched an unintended five acres and entered a tree line before crews had it back under control. Fire District 2 was called as mutual aid but was canceled en route.
No injuries were reported.
