Colleagues, friends and community members all convened inside White Auditorium’s Little Theatre Wednesday to bid farewell to a longtime civil servant.
Following his final meeting as a member of the Emporia City Commission, Rob Gilligan stepped into a farewell party celebrating his 11 years of service to the city of Emporia. Among those in attendance was Lyon County Commissioner Scott Briggs.
Briggs says while Gilligan served on the city commission, his work far exceeded the city limits.
Gilligan says having the ability to serve his hometown in this capacity has been a true honor.
Commissioner Jamie Sauder says Gilligan is an individual whose passion for the city of Emporia is immeasurable.
Gilligan is departing Emporia to serve as the new President and CEO of the Cape Girardeau, MO, Chamber of Commerce. In addition to his role on the commission, Gilligan has also served as the Executive Director of Ignite Emporia and previously served as a member of the Regional Development Association of East Central Kansas Board of Directors.
Gilligan will begin his new role in Missouri on Apr. 11.
