Cloudy skies and rainy days have now given way to sunshine and critical fire danger in the KVOE listening area.
The National Weather Service has issued Red Flag Warnings for Lyon, Coffey and Morris counties from 10 am to 8 pm with a separate warning going for Chase and Greenwood counties from noon to 8 pm. This means burning will not be permitted in the area.
Temperatures in the low to mid-60s, wind gusts as high as 35 mph and low humidity levels around 25 percent will mean any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly. Wind advisories are also in effect for Morris County from 10 am to 8 pm and Chase County from noon to 8 pm.
The warnings and advisories follow Kansas Governor Laura Kelly’s emergency disaster declaration issued Tuesday in response to the increasing threat of wildfires across the state.
