For nearly a decade, SOS Director Connie Cahoone has worked tirelessly to advocate and provide support for assault victims in the local area and that work has caught the attention of state leaders.
Wednesday, Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt recognized Cahoone as the recipient of the Community Champion Award during the virtual Victims’ Rights Conference. Cahoone was nominated for the award by her staff and co-workers including Tara Schnakenberg who wrote, “Beyond statistics, Connie is an outstanding leader and mentor who gives 110% devotion. It takes an exceptional, devoted and driven individual to have a vision this immense and successful.”
Cahoone, a survivor of domestic abuse herself, says her personal story has been an incredible motivator to provide the best quality of care and service to clients throughout her career.
In addition to her service to SOS clients, Cahoone also spearheaded the Stronger Together Capital Campaign which raised more than $4 million to help move the agency to its current home at 1420 C of E Drive. SOS also just concluded its new Heroes For Hope Campaign and Hope-A-Palooza event that raised a combined total of $97,000.
