Riders, runners and adventurers are all getting set to tear up some gravel this weekend.
The Flint Hills Gravel Ride will be making its second appearance in the local community Saturday. In addition to the 30 and 80 mile rides, the event will also see the addition of a 5k and 10k run and a new ride that is sure to excite any adventurer according to organizer Bobby Thompson.
Thompson says the 120-mile ride sold out immediately with 75 riders set to take part. Registration will open at 6:30 am for the 6k and 10k runs with the first wave of riders launching from Americus at 8 am and the first set of runners leaving at 9:05 am.
Proceeds from the day’s activities will go to support a number of charitable organizations including Payne’s Promise, the Emporia Interscholastic Cycling Association mountain bike team and SOS.
As of Thursday, Thompson says they already have more than 600 athletes registered for the event. For more information on the Flint Hills Gravel Ride visit flinthillsgravelride.com.
