Weather conditions haven’t stayed stable for very long the past six months, and that trend certainly continues over the next week.
Critical fire danger returns to the Flint Hills on Friday. Red flag warnings are scheduled for Lyon, Chase, Morris and Wabaunsee counties from 12-8 pm. Northwesterly winds as high as 35 mph will combine with relative humidity levels possibly under 20 percent and dry grasses to set off the potential for rapid fire development.
On Saturday, the concern is cold temperatures as freeze warnings blanket the area. Lyon, Coffey, Morris, Osage and Wabaunsee counties are in a warning from 1-8 am, while Chase and Greenwood counties are in a separate warning from 2-8 am. Temperatures in the upper 20s could kill unprotected plants.
Mild temperatures near 70 on Saturday and close to 80 on Sunday — another windy day — could give way to strong storms next week, with slight severe weather risk areas for parts of the KVOE listening Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
