The Emporia State baseball team rolled to a 16-6 win over Newman in 7 innings Sunday.
The Hornets sent 11 batters to the plate in the 1st inning and scored 6 runs on 6 hits and never trailed the rest of the day.
Coach Seth Wheeler called the first inning a big confidence boost.
Emporia State added a run in the 2nd inning, 2 more runs in the 3rd inning, 4 runs in the 4th inning, and ended the game with 3 runs in the 7th inning.
Chandler Bloomer was 3 for 4 at the plate with 3 RBI and 3 runs scored.
Mason Sturdy was also 3 for 4, he was a home run shy of hitting for the cycle. He also drove in 3 runs and scored 2 runs.
Blake Carroll hit the lone home run of the day for Emporia State, a two-run home run in the 4th inning.
Noah Geekie was the winning pitcher going 6 innings giving up 6 runs on 10 hits with 9 strikeouts. He said the first inning took a lot of the pressure off the day.
Emporia State won the series 2 games to 1.
They are scheduled to host Pittsburg State on Tuesday.
