Dylan Werries Walkoff Grand Slam lifted the Emporia State baseball team to an 11-10 win over Pittsburg State Tuesday night.
The Hornets were able to overcome 6 home runs hit by Pittsburg State. The Hornets hit 2 home runs, both came in the 9th inning. Sam Chaput hit a 2 run home run and Dylan Werries walked it off for Emporia State.
Emporia State took a 3-0 lead in the 2nd inning thanks to 4 straight walks and a Sam Chaput single.
Pittsburg State tied the game in the top of the 3rd on 2 home runs. The Gorillas scored 3 more runs in the 4th inning on 2 more solo home runs. They would also hit 2 more home runs in the top of the 9th to take a 10-5 lead. Emporia State answered with a 6-run 9th inning.
Emporia State Coach Seth Wheeler knew they had to be patient.
The Hornets are now 15-23 for the season and 9-15 in the MIAA with 9 Conference games left. They will host Washburn in a 3 game series beginning on Thursday.
