Interim Emporia Fire Chief Brandon Beck can now remove the interim from his title.
Friday, the City of Emporia announced that Beck has been named as the permanent Emporia Fire Department Chief. Beck says this appointment has brought his career full circle.
Beck says he knows his new role will not come without its fair share of challenges. He says thankfully he has had a great number of mentors who have helped prepare him to face all challenges head-on.
Beck joined Emporia Fire as a volunteer firefighter in May 1993. He was then hired as a full-time firefighter and EMT in 1998 before being promoted to paramedic/firefighter in 2001. Beck was then promoted to Assistant Chief in 2007 and assumed the role of interim chief last December following the retirement of Jack Taylor who served as chief for 21 years.
Beck is the first internal candidate to be promoted to chief following Claude Lang who served as Emporia’s Fire Chief from 1958 to 1990. A formal investiture ceremony will be held for Beck on May 5 at 2 pm inside the Little Theatre at White Auditorium.
