A good start was followed by a bad finish for the Emporia State baseball team in a 15-4 loss to Washburn Thursday night.
The Hornets scored 4 runs in the first inning 2 run home runs by Javier Pena and Kadyn Williams.
Washburn tied the game with 4 runs in the top of the 2nd inning and the rest of the night belonged to Washburn. They would score the 15 runs on 17 hits including 2 home runs. After the first inning, Emporia State would scratch out only 2 more hits and struck out 15 times. Emporia State Coach Seth Wheeler said not being able to get out of the 2nd inning was costly.
Emporia State and Washburn play again Friday night with the first pitch set for 6 pm at Glennen Field.
