The Emporia State softball team split a doubleheader with Missouri Southern Saturday.
Southern won the first game 7-2. Southern scored 2 runs in the 3rd inning on a 2 run home run. Emporia State tied the game in the 4th inning scoring both runs on an error. Southern would score 2 runs in the 6th and added 3 more runs in the 7th for the win.
Emporia State won the 2nd game 7-2. Southern scored 2 runs in the 1st inning. Emporia State would take the lead for good in the 3rd inning, scoring 3 runs on an Emma Furnish Double, Abby Ward single and Maddy Broxterman bunt single.
The Lady Hornets added 4 runs in the 5th inning, Abby Ward tripled to drive in a run. McKenzie Glass doubled to drive in a run and Bailey Flewelling hit a home run to drive in 2 runs.
Emporia State Coach April Rosales was encouraged by the bounce back in the 2nd game.
The Emporia State softball team will host Rogers State and Northeastern State next weekend.
