A hacking incident has reportedly compromised the personal information of an untold number of patients at Newman Regional Health.
According to Newman’s website, the hospital identified “suspicious activity within an email account.” Following the discovery of the activity and an investigation, the hospital launched a review and analysis on Mar. 14 to identify any and all individuals whose personal information may have been affected.
Following the investigation, it was determined that there was unauthorized access to “a limited number of email accounts” between Jan. 26, 2021 and Nov. 23, 2021. The data that was included in the emails varied, however, the hospital says some individuals may have had their social security numbers or other financial information compromised.
Individuals’ names, dates of birth, medical record or other identification numbers, addresses, phone numbers, e-mail addresses, limited heath, treatment or insurance information and employee information may have also been affected.
The hospital also issued a statement saying, “the security of the data we maintain is of the highest priority to us and we are using enhanced security tools to protect it. Newman Regional Health has taken steps to help prevent similar incidents in the future.”
