Laps 4 Landon is inside Tuesday evening.
Normally, activities would fill much of the Welch Stadium football field, but the risk of showers and thunderstorms has pushed those activities inside to the Emporia Student Recreation Center. On KVOE’s 7:05 am newscast Tuesday, ESU Health and Human Performance Professor Dr. Jennifer Thomas said the traditional bounce house can’t be held due to space constraints, but almost every Emporia State athletics team will be on hand — except for the tennis teams, and only because they are on the road.
Activities including the walk, games, face painting for kids and prize drawings will take place from 6-7:30 pm, with a silent auction on the Laps 4 Landon Facebook page from 7:30-8:30 pm. Lazy Butt BBQ is also serving dinner in the Twelfth Avenue Baptist Church parking lot from 5:30-7:30 pm.
Proceeds go to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. The event is named for Landon Dody, who was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis shortly after birth. Now in its 15th year, the event also highlights the progress of Aiden Dreier, age 6, and newborn Ren DuBree, who are also diagnosed with CF.
8 am Monday: Laps 4 Landon moving most fundraising activities inside with storm chances Tuesday
Laps 4 Landon returns to the community calendar Tuesday, but some adjustments are coming with showers and storms in the forecast.
Activities are set from 6-8:30 pm and are moving from Welch Stadium to the Student Recreation Center, including a walk, games, face painting for kids, prize drawings and a silent auction as well as opportunities to interact with members of Emporia State’s athletic teams. The online auction on the Laps 4 Landon 2022 Facebook page now takes place from 7:30-8:30 pm. Lazy Butt BBQ is also serving dinner in the Twelfth Avenue Baptist Church parking lot from 5:30-7:30 pm.
Students in Emporia State University’s Health and Human Performance program help to organize the event. The annual fundraiser supports 15-year-old Landon Dody and 6-year-old Aiden Dreier, both of whom were diagnosed with cystic fibrosis shortly after they were born. Cystic fibrosis is a genetic disorder that creates extremely thick mucus which can clog the lungs and obstruct the pancreas of those afflicted.
