Council Grove Police took a juvenile into custody after a reported incident of a social media challenge.
Police Chief Shawn Wangerin says there was a reported drive-by shooting near 11th and Donnon around 8 pm Saturday. Investigators determined there was no shooting with bullets, but a juvenile had fired several Orbeez rounds at a home and hit a child with at least one of them.
A young male was taken into custody. His name is not being released. There is currently no word of injuries to the child that was hit.
The so-called “Orbeez Challenge” has people firing the water capsules and posting those videos to TikTok and other social media outlets. The Orbeez guns are toys, but they can resemble semiautomatic machine guns. Wangerin asks parents to make sure kids are aware of the dangers and the Orbeez rounds should not be shot at “unsuspecting people.”
