Renovations continue at the USD 251 North Lyon County preschool in Americus, and that process continues to get funding support from a range of sources.
Over the past year, the district has obtained several grants for the building at 558 Broadway in Americus, including $278,000 from the Jones Trust and $125,000 from the federal ESSER 2 program. At the board’s most recent meeting, it approved a $107,000 Kansas Preschool Pilot Grant. Superintendent Bob Blair says past grants helped with the renovation process. This new grant helps the preschool get off to a good start.
In other business, the board updated its 5-year capital improvement plan to add projects both at the preschool and at Northern Heights. The board also continued conversations about the strategic plan through the 2026 academic year — a discussion that was put on hold last year so three new school board members could have some time to get acclimated to the board and different issues facing the district.
