Evergy officials joined with representatives of Emporia city government to turn dirt on its new service center.
The formal groundbreaking was held Tuesday at the site of the new center in the 600 block of Road 180. With Evergy crews now having to go to several locations for supplies, District Service Manager Rolland Trahoon II says the benefits of having a one-stop shop can’t be understated.
Emporia has helped the project by providing underground infrastructure and, eventually, paving Road 180 between F and G. Vice-Mayor Danny Giefer says this continues Evergy’s presence in and around the city.
17th District Senator Jeff Longbine of Emporia says this will make life easier for crew members.
60th District Representative Mark Schreiber, a former executive at Evergy’s predecessor Westar, says lawmakers appreciate Evergy’s willingness to be proactive in meeting customer needs.
Construction should begin later this spring and should be completed by spring 2023, with employees moving into the new complex by summer 2023.
The 55,000 square-foot building replaces the longstanding service complex at 220 Mechanic and is more than double the size of the existing building.
