Now all juveniles allegedly involved in the Jesus Avila murder better than four years ago are certified as adults for court proceedings.
Lyon County Chief Judge Merlin Wheeler ended a lengthy process involving a hearing over several dates by certifying Alan Alanis as an adult Thursday. Prosecutors now have until the end of April to file formal adult charges.
Alanis is one of six defendants in the case, all of whom were juveniles when Avila was killed and later found in a burned-out car outside Emporia in September 2017. He is currently charged with first-degree murder, conspiracy to commit murder and other charges in Avila’s death.
