A downtown Emporia business that has seen increased traffic alongside the ongoing growth of cycling nationwide is closing its doors.
High Gear Cyclery is shutting down as business owners Matt and Stephanie Brown move to Brownsville, Texas, to move closer to residents in Mexico that are served by the Handlebars of Hope ministry, which provides bikes to those in need. The ministry has had a local focus but has also concentrated much of its work in Mexico.
The Browns say bikes normally available for sale have all been removed from the business, but they will continue to repair bikes, order parts and sell accessories.
