Storm chances have altered the schedule somewhat, however, Emporia’s annual Party for the Planet will still be taking place this weekend.
The Earth Day event will begin Saturday morning at the Prophet Aquatic and Research Center at 9 am. Outreach and Engagement Coordinator Daphne Mayes, a recent guest of KVOE’s Morning Show, says they are very excited to be a part of this weekend’s celebration. She says there will be a number of local and state organizations on hand to lead a range of discussions and activities.
The center is just one of the four entities involved in this year’s celebration which also includes the David Traylor Zoo, Natural Resources Advisory Board and Earth Day Extravaganza Group.
Activities at PAROC will run until noon when they will shift over to the Sauder Alumni Center. Original plans were for the second half of the event to be held at the David Traylor Zoo, however, the location was changed due to the potential for rain and storms Saturday.
Despite the change in location, Zoo Director Lisa Keith says the lineup of activities will still be the same.
Activities at the Alumni Center will run from 1 pm until 6 pm. The event is free and open to the public.
