Strong thunderstorms brought a risk of high wind and large hail to the KVOE listening area Saturday night.
A line of storms caused several severe thunderstorm warnings affecting Lyon, Chase, Greenwood and Osage counties. No severe weather was actually reported.
Brief heavy rain came from the storms:
*KVOE studios: 0.60 inches
*10th and Burns: 1.5 inches
Storm chances are now out of the area forecast until Wednesday night. In the meantime, Sunday will be occasionally breezy with high temperatures around 70 degrees. High temperatures cool Monday, with a high of 63 degrees.

6:10 pm Saturday: Severe thunderstorm watch posted areawide until midnight
All area counties are in a severe thunderstorm watch for the rest of Saturday.
The KVOE listening area is in a severe thunderstorm watch until midnight. The main risks are hail to the size of ping pong balls and wind gusts up to 70 mph, but tornadoes cannot be ruled out.

8:15 am Saturday: Blustery conditions, wind advisories continue Saturday with slight severe weather risk still in place
More wind is expected across the KVOE listening area Saturday. Severe weather is also possible during the afternoon and early evening hours.
Wind advisories, initially activated Friday morning, were extended to 7 pm Saturday areawide with straight-line gusts expected between 50-60 mph. Non-thunderstorm gusts on Friday actually got to 58 mph at the Emporia Municipal Airport — the threshold for severe thunderstorm activity — and were between 40-50 mph overnight.
Severe thunderstorms are possible areawide as well. The National Weather Service says storms could fire after 2 pm, with hail and high winds the main risks along with an isolated tornado. The Weather Service says storm activity across the eastern half of Kansas shortly after sunrise may not have much impact on our severe weather chances for the afternoon and early evening. Storms should clear the area by late evening if not sooner.

4:30 pm Friday: Wind advisories extended to Saturday evening areawide with severe weather possible by Saturday afternoon
Windy conditions across the KVOE listening area Friday afternoon probably won’t abate until late Saturday night.
Wind gusts have approached 60 mph at the Emporia Municipal Airport and approaching 50 mph in east Emporia. Gusts at the Burlington Airport have been as high as 44 mph.
With gusts expected between 40-50 mph overnight through much of Saturday, the National Weather Service has extended the existing wind advisories for all area counties until 7 pm Saturday.
Overlapping the high straight-line winds Saturday afternoon and evening will be thunderstorm activity, including a slight risk of severe thunderstorms. All hazards are possible, with damaging storm winds and large hail the main concerns. Brief heavy rain is also possible.
