Emporia State University’s LOVE Group and the Emporia Animal Shelter welcomed movie lovers, both two-legged and four-legged, to a special screening for a special cause Sunday.
The Emporia Granada Theatre hosted the inaugural Fur and Film fundraiser which was developed by Lead Organize Volunteer Emporia, a group formed by ESU communications students as a class project. LOVE member Ryanne Meyer says each member shares a passion for animals and felt teaming up with the Animal Shelter was the best focus for their efforts.
The screening Sunday was free to attend with a suggested donation of $5 or more to assist with needs at the animal shelter. Humane Society of the Flint Hills and Emporia Animal Shelter Executive Director Stephanie Achille was on hand with several volunteers and a pair of pups who reside at the shelter.
She says she is grateful LOVE chose them as the benefactor for Sunday’s event.
Achille added that two animals had been adopted before Sunday’s activities which she attributes to the publicity the LOVE has helped to generate for the shelter in recent weeks. Fundraising totals from the event are currently pending.
