Several area fire departments have been dispatched to a grass fire just north of the Lyon-Greenwood county line.
Madison Fire was toned out to 158 Kansas Highway 99, almost directly between Madison and Olpe, shortly before 3:45 pm. Early indications are the fire started as a controlled burn but got out of control.
Initially, Olpe and Lyon County District 4, Emporia’s rural fire unit, were dispatched but District 4 was canceled and Olpe was unable to respond.
