The Emporia State softball team split a doubleheader with Northeastern State Monday.
The Lady Hornets won the first game 10-8 in 8 innings. Emporia State scored 3 runs in the 1st inning on a Maddy Broxterman 3 run home run. Northeastern took the lead scoring 6 runs in the 3rd inning thanks to 2 Emporia State errors and a grand slam. The Lady Hornets tied the game up with 3 runs in the bottom of the 3rd inning. The game was tied at 7 after 7 innings. Northeastern scored a run in the top of the 8th. In the bottom of the 8th inning Jayda VanAckeren hit a 3 run home run to walk it off.
VanAckeren was also the winning pitcher.
Northeastern State was the winner of the second game 2-1. Both of Northeastern runs were home runs. Emporia State scored their lone run in the 5th on an Abby Ward single.
With the Split the Lady Hornets are in 8th place in the MIAA Standings with 2 games to play. Emporia State Coach April Rosales says they still have a lot to play for.
The Lady Hornets close out the regular season Saturday when they host Washburn.
