USD 252’s latest Honor Flight trip to the nation’s capital has touched back down in Kansas.
The contingent of local veterans and student guardians returned from the whirlwind trip Tuesday night. The 24-hour round trip included stops at multiple museums and war memorials across Washington DC.
Student guardian Josie Orear was on her second Honor Flight following a trip last November. She encourages anyone who has the chance to participate to take advantage of it.
Honor Flight Student Guardian and Olpe High School senior Taylor Cole was also on her second trip to DC. After attending the program last fall, Cole says the words of history teacher Megan McGuire inspired her to take part in a second trip.
Former longtime Deputy Commissioner of the Kansas State Department of Education Dale Dennis was one of several veterans on the trip. He believes the program truly illustrates the “importance of people” and everyone’s right to be treated equally.
Fellow veteran Dan Nurnberg says the trip was a “beautiful experience.”
This was the ninth Honor Flight as organized by USD 252. Photos can be found on the district’s Honor Flight Facebook page.
