Hundreds of disc golfers from around the world are in and around Emporia this week for the Dynamic Discs Open.
Dynamic Discs President and Tournament Assistant Director Doug Bjerkaas says around 700 disc golfers are playing. Over 800 spectators have purchased passes for the event, and Bjerkaas says ticket sales will likely go above 2,000. There are just a few badges available for pro activity at Jones Supreme on Thursday and Friday. That’s not the case for the Emporia Country Club on Saturday and Sunday.
Two-day passes for action at the Country Club are $50. Bjerkaas says volunteers are needed, especially in four-hour shifts Saturday and Sunday, and volunteers will get badges at no cost to them. Interested residents can email jackie@dynamicdiscs.com or doug@dynamicdiscs.com.
Residents can also watch ValuNet channel 3 to see the action from home.
Bjerkaas says some Flex Start C-tier players started this past weekend. Player check-in for both amateurs and pros will be 9 am to 5 pm Wednesday at the Emporia Granada Theatre.
As usual, there are a lot of opportunities for the public to enjoy tournament-related activities. The annual bonfire will be from 7-10 pm Friday at the Lyon County Fairgrounds. The annual block party, which will include the traditional Ring of Fire, a Vendor Village and a brand-new Food Truck Rally, will be in the 800 and 900 blocks of Commercial Street from 5-10 pm Saturday.
