Formal charges have been lodged against an Emporia man suspected of illegally firing a weapon this week.
Diego Ambriz-Cervantes, age 26, was arrested Monday after several reports of shots fired in the 900 block of Cottonwood just east of William Allen White Elementary. Lyon County Attorney Marc Goodman says he has filed charges of felony criminal discharge of a weapon and felon in possession of a firearm.
A first court appearance date is pending.
Ambriz-Cervantes was on the Lyon County Most Wanted list briefly in 2015 on suspicion of kidnapping before he was found in Texas and brought back to Kansas for court proceedings. He was ultimately convicted in 2016 and was sentenced to nearly seven years in prison after allegedly robbing a woman in far west Emporia in February 2014.
