It’s just about “go time” for the 2022 Dynamic Discs Open, at least when you consider the schedule for the main event.
Play for C-tier levels has been underway since the weekend. Play for amateurs and pros begins Thursday, and the Emporia Granada Theatre was full to the brim Wednesday as players checked in.
Among those in line was Ralf Rogov of Estonia who has been coming to Emporia since 2016. Rogov always brings a contingent of new individuals with him to the DDO which he believes has helped contribute to the sport’s growth back in his home country.
As pros get ready to tackle the new Jones Supreme course Thursday and Friday, designer Eric McCabe was on KVOE’s Morning Show on Wednesday, in part to talk about the course — which was updated to make it more challenging. He says pros “just shredded” the Jones Gold Course last year, so the Jones Supreme option was reconfigured and lengthened.
This comes as McCabe is getting ready for his induction into the Kansas Flying Disc Association Hall of Fame on Thursday. KFDA President Rich Smith says McCabe is deserving of being in the Hall of Fame’s initial class of inductees, both for his play on the course and his work off it.
McCabe says he really enjoys course design.
The induction ceremony is at the Emporia Country Club, with doors opening at 5 pm Thursday and the official ceremony beginning at 5:30 pm. It’s open to the public.
