Initially, trial was set to begin next week for one of the six suspects in the Jesus Avila murder. That now won’t happen until at least late summer.
Wednesday was originally set for a final pretrial in Jordy Cornejo-Campoverde’s case before trial proceedings were to begin Monday. Instead, prosecutors and defense attorneys reached an agreement to take the trial off the docket for now and schedule a status hearing for Aug. 12. Additional court dates would be scheduled at that time, depending on the results of the status hearing. Other details about that agreement are not being divulged.
Cornejo-Campoverde is accused of first-degree murder, conspiracy to commit murder and several other charges in Avila’s death from September 2017. Two co-defendants, Samuel Garcia and Armando Nunez, have separate hearings Thursday.
