Bonfire or no bonfire, the disc golf community turned out in droves to take part in an annual tradition synonymous with the Dynamic Discs experience.
The annual Swedish bonfire gathering was held at the Lyon County Fairgrounds Friday night, however, due to high winds throughout the day organizers chose to forgo lighting any fires. The lack of fire didn’t affect the turnout as competitors and enthusiasts alike converged on the fairgrounds to visit with vendors and get in a few extra rounds of play.
David Berglund of Sweden has been a staple of the DDO for right around a decade. The bonfire tradition came from Berglund’s home country and he says while it is an important part of the festivities, the event itself truly circles around a sense of community.
The comradery amongst those in the disc golf community is a major part of why so many come to Emporia each year. That includes Danny Risen of Dallas, TX, who is attending his second DDO.
DDO activities will continue Saturday night with the annual block party in downtown Emporia. KVOE will broadcast from the block party from 5 to 7 pm on KVOE 1400 AM, 96.9 FM, Country 101.7 FM and Mix 104.9.
