If you want a veterans banner proudly displayed in downtown Emporia later this year, Emporia Main Street is ready for you.
The application window opened Tuesday, and Main Street Director Casey Woods says interest has already been heavy with over 180 applications in the lottery. Woods also says residents who have applied in the past will be contacted to see if they still want to be in this year’s drawing, which will take place July 1.
Woods tells KVOE News the banner project is a great way to recognize veterans for their service to America.
Residents can go to www.emporiamainstreet.com to fill out an online application or go to the office at 727 Commercial. There is no charge for applicants at this time, but there will be if applications are selected during the lottery drawing in July.
Veterans banners are hung from the All Veterans Memorial north on Commercial Street to the Emporia State University campus during the city’s All Veterans tribute activities in October and November.
