It was a rough afternoon for the Emporia State softball team on senior day Saturday. Washburn swept the Lady Hornets in a doubleheader.
Washburn won the 1st game 5-1. Washburn scored 3 runs in the 1st inning. Emporia State scored their lone run in the bottom of the 1st. Brittanie Shepherd scored on a Maddy Broxterman single.
Washburn added 2 more runs in the 4th inning.
Emporia State had chances but would strand 10 base runners leaving the bases loaded in both the 3rd and 7th innings.
In the 2nd game, Washburn defeated the Lady Hornets 13-3.
Despite losing both games the Emporia State did clinch a spot in the MIAA Tournament.
Coach April Rosales hopes they can learn from Sunday’s games.
The MIAA tournament will be played in Edmond, Oklahoma beginning on Wednesday. The pairings will be announced on Sunday.
