The National Teachers Hall of Fame has revealed its new interim leader as a search continues to fill the role on a permanent basis.
Dr. Ken Weaver was announced as the interim Executive Director during a special press conference inside ESU’s Visser Hall Monday afternoon. Weaver brings a wealth of knowledge both of Emporia State University and the Hall of Fame to the role.
Weaver has previously served as the chair of the Hall of Fame board of trustees after a lengthy career as a professor at ESU which began in 1986. Weaver has also served as the director of the ESU Honors Program and the former Dean of the Teachers College.
Weaver says he has a lengthy list of goals in mind as he prepares to step into the new role. He says along with helping to find the best candidate to serve as the next permanent director, he is also hoping to continue work to increase awareness of the Hall of Fame.
Weaver will take over for longtime director Carol Strickland who is set to retire after leading the hall for nearly a decade. When asked why Weaver was the ideal candidate for the role, Strickland says all you have to do is look at his career history.
Though he will not officially assume his new role until Jul. 1, Weaver will participate in induction activities in Washington DC May 9-14 as well as induction activities in Emporia this June. A national search for a permanent director is underway at this time.
Weaver did not say whether he plans to submit his name for the permanent director position.
