A wreck involving a car and USD 253 Emporia school bus tied up an intersection in southwest Emporia and caused minor injuries for one person late Tuesday.
The crash happened on West Sixth with Stratford on the south side of the intersection and Industrial Road on the north side. Police Officer Sinjin Andrews says the bus was northbound on Stratford and in the process of crossing West Sixth to continue north on Industrial. The driver, 34-year-old Jessamyn Weingartner, apparently did not see an eastbound car and was hit by the oncoming vehicle.
There was moderate front-end damage to the car, while the bus had hardly any damage. Andrews says speed does not appear to be a factor with either vehicle.
The car driver, later identified as 21-year-old Alyssa Good, was taken to Newman Regional Health. The bus had several students on board but nobody was hurt.
